Objective:

Introduce the visitor to the Cold War segment of the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum when for the first time, global superpowers had access to weapons that could result in the nearly instantaneous, complete destruction of other nations and how increasing tensions between nuclear armed nations fueled growing fears at home and abroad.

Research in collaboration with the MIG Portico and PFSM staff, scriptwriting, audio and video production.

Description:

A wide-screen (16’x9’) projected montage of post WWII film footage creates an audiovisual collage of evocative scenes from the Cold War. Visitors witness Churchill’s ‘Iron Curtain’ speech, the Berlin blockade and airlift, the first Soviet and U.S. nuclear tests, Sputnik launch, President Kennedy watching missile launches, satellite photos and newspaper headlines from the Cuban missile crisis, suburbanites building fallout shelters in their backyards, all creating an atmosphere of the increasing tension between nuclear armed nations during the Cold War.
