“Hacker Spirit”

NEW MEXICO MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY AND SCIENCE,
ALBUQUERQUE, NM

Objective:

Reclaim the early meaning of the word “hackers” and illuminate the culture that led to the creation and evolution of microcomputers.

Services:

Scriptwriting and video production.

Description:

Watching Hacker Spirit, visitors witness the pure passion, idealism, swagger, and irreverence that defined the computer community of the 1970s. Through a montage of archival film footage, photos, and interviews of early “hackers” like Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, Paul Allen, and Bill Gates, visitors also learn that the “hacker” mentality evolved out of the early hobbyist environment and, perhaps surprisingly, had roots in the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab in 1971, a “thriving community of hackers.”
